For eight years, I kept entering rooms no one wants to enter.

Infusion rooms. Hospital rooms. Waiting rooms.

I thought they were teaching me how to survive.

They were teaching me how to see.

A diagnosis can look like destruction. Waiting like nothing is happening. Dependence like weakness. Money like security. A rented apartment like home.

But what if these are only first appearances?

The Clearing of Illusion is a Torah-rooted spiritual memoir in forty literary essays. What began in oncology widened into marriage, children, friendship, betrayal, money, success, fear, gratitude, faith, eternity, and home.

Each essay begins with something tangible—a hospital room, a wedding envelope, a pair of shoes, a penny, a child, a journey—and follows it until Torah opens another layer of meaning.

This is not a book about escaping reality.

It is an invitation to enter it more deeply.

To look again.

And perhaps to discover that Hashem was never absent from the places we thought were ordinary.

From the Introduction — The Second Look

The world is a masterpiece of camouflage.

It is so convincing that most of us spend our lives believing that what we see is all there is.

A house is a house. Money is money. A diagnosis is a diagnosis. A stranger is a stranger. A delay is a delay.

Until something happens.

The house becomes something else. The money means something else. The diagnosis opens a question medicine cannot answer. The stranger turns out not to be a stranger at all.

Nothing in the world has changed. Only the surface has opened.

I am an educator, strategist, and author whose life bridges commerce, scholarship, and faith. I am equally devoted to mentoring young adults throughout New York's Jewish community. During my years of teaching at the Jewish Institute of Queens, I encouraged students to integrate timeless Torah wisdom with real-world responsibility.
